You unlock this door with the key of imagination.

Beyond it is another dimension.

A dimension of sound...a dimension of sight... a dimension of mind.

You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas.

You've just crossed over into

The Lernie Zone

Lernie Beuler was born in Warren, MI in the Year of the Monkey, which partially explains her off-beat take on life. From the time she picked up her first Crayola Crayon to draw her first mural on her bedroom wall, her parents knew it was her destiny to become an artist. When she was old enough, they sent her to the University of California, Irvine where she graduated with a B.A. in Studio Arts.

To help support her growing art supply habit during her stint at UCI, she worked as a clerk at Orange County Jail Inmate Records. It was there that she met her husband (no folks, he was not on the wrong side of the bars.) They married about a year later and now have twin daughters.

For awhile, Lernie found it hard to find the time to get to her drawing pad or canvas as she could usually be found chasing down kids. Finally, in 1999, the muse got to her and has been with her ever since. Her friends have dubbed this era "Lernie's Renaissance Year". It began around the time she attended a Van Gogh exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts and just escalated from there.

Much of Lernie's inspiration for her "nightscape", or nocturnal landscape, paintings comes from the heart. Most of the scenes she paints are created from relaxing tropical or coastal fantasy images she imagines would be great places to escape to when reality gets hectic...possibly with that special someone in your life. She started working on this series because she loves the way different kinds of light play on objects at night (ie moonlight, firelight, candlelight reflecting off of foliage, water, rocks, etc). Other fantasy themes in her repertoire include dragons, nymphs or other mythological characters. The Impressionists and one of her favorite artists, James Coleman, admittedly influence her style of painting. The majority of Lernie's work is done in acrylic on canvas.

More romance can be found in Lernie's Imzadi or Soulmate paintings. Each piece in her series evokes the feelings of unity, wholeness and passion that Soulmates feel for each other. Shapes and color entwine around each other to create movement, which might inspire viewers to think of their own close bond with their own soulmate.

The majority of Lernie's work is done in acrylic on canvas. Her paintings are currently on display at both Café Tu Tu Tango's at the Univeral Citywalk and at the Block in Orange. She has also been a featured artist at Downtown Disney.

If you like her paintings, please feel free to let her know. She has some prints she'll be auctioning on Ebay, but if you'd really like her to paint you an's the great part: she works on commission. Email her at and she'll work something out with you :-)
