"...I am the first to touch your soul."
--from Imzadi by Peter David

The very first pieces that I created for my "Soulmate Fantasy Paintings" were inspired by Peter David's description of his version of soulmates... "Imzadi" (most beloved). It's the deepest bond a person can share with another person, not just physically, but most importantly, emotionally and spiritually.

However, the main source of inspiration for my paintings comes from Plato's philosophy on soulmates. He says that in the beginning people had two sets of heads, arms, legs, etc. Because they became insolent and proud, Zeus punished them by splitting them in two. From then on, we were destined to search for our missing half.

"And when one of them meets with his other half, the actual half of himself, whether he be a lover of youth or a lover of another sort, the pair are lost in an amazement of love and friendship and intimacy, and will not be out of the other's sight, as I may say, even for a moment: these are the people who pass their whole lives together; yet they could not explain what they desire of one another. For the intense yearning which each of them has towards the other does not appear to be the desire of lover's intercourse, but of something else which the soul of either evidently desires and cannot tell ..."
----From Plato's Symposium

In my paintings, I try to show that idea of soulmates. Each piece in of my series evokes the feelings of unity, wholeness and passion that Soulmates feel for each other. Shapes and color entwine around each other to create movement, which might inspire viewers to think of their own close bond with their own soulmate (found or yet to be found).
